Aki Holck

Aki

Aki Holck is a musher and entrepreneur from Rovaniemi, Finland. He runs the family business Huskypoint Ltd. together with his wife Malla and soon their teenage son Joona will be old enough to join the team. Aki has 20 years´ experience in organizing sleddog programs for tourists. Huskypoint operates from bases in Rovaniemi and Ylläs and also operates in Levi for a part of the season.

Originally Aki comes from further north, a little village called Veittivuoma from Kittilä community. He is a Sami origin from his mothers side of the family. Before starting the tourim business he worked as a lumberjack. From his uncle he inherited the passion for dog sledding as well as his first team of huskies.

Previous races:

His first race ever was Femundlopet 600 in Norway in 2006. Due to the lack of time that is typical for the tourism business he had never taken part in any sleddog race at all. The first race was just a learning process but the second was already better. In the 2006 Finnmarkslopet 500 Aki completed the race on 8th.

2007 3rd in Passvik Trail Open class.

2008 dfn in Femundlopet 600 (dfn after 500km)
2008 1st in Carelian East Point 200, Finnish championship in long distance
2008 7th in Finnmarkslopet Open class 1000, by completing this race Aki became the first Finn ever to complete Finnmarkslopet 1000 or any 1000 km race.

Targets for the year 2009:

Femundlopet 600 and Finnmarkslopet 1000 and the aim is to win either one of them.

The final goal is to take part to and complete the 1000 miles sled dog race Iditarod in Alaska
and to be the first Finn ever to do so.

Currently two of Huskypoints’ employees are also racing with Aki’s dogs - young dogs that are getting ready, tested and selected for Iditarod.
